Sis… Don’t Carry It Again
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Too often, we find peace… only to pick up the same burdens that exhausted us before.
In this episode, we're talking about why we keep saying yes, the habits that quietly steal our peace, and why healing isn't just about feeling better—it's about living differently.
Because restoration isn't permission to carry everything again. It's the freedom to finally let some things go.
And if this episode encouraged you, be sure to follow the podcast so you never miss a new episode.

Welcome to Step Out Sis, the podcast where we grow, heal, and walk confidently in God's calling. I am your host, Sharon. Last week we talked about making room for our souls to breathe. God restores us, but what happens after we exhale? Many of us finally begin to feel rested, peaceful, and emotionally healthier, and then we start saying yes to everything again. We add another responsibility, we volunteer again, we overextend ourselves again, and before long, we're wondering why we are exhausted all over again. Maybe the reason you feel better isn't because you suddenly became stronger. Maybe you feel better because you finally created room for God to restore you. So the bigger question isn't, how can I fit more into my life? The bigger question is, why do I always feel the need to say yes? Healing requires new habits. God can restore your soul, but you and I still have to make different decisions. Healing isn't just about feeling better, healing is about living differently. Paul reminds us in Galatians, the fifth chapter and the first verse, it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. After God has brought you into a place of freedom and restoration, don't go back to carrying the very thing He told you to lie down. One of the habits I'm currently working on is having a consistent bedtime. My husband challenged me one day and basically said, go to bed. Whatever doesn't get finished today will still be there tomorrow. Now that sounds simple, right? But for someone who is used to squeezing every last drop out of the day, that isn't easy. I'm realizing that part of my healing isn't just getting more rest, it's believing that everything doesn't have to be finished today. Honestly, what I was doing wasn't working. So if I want a different outcome, I have to develop different habits. The question we have to ask ourselves is why do we keep saying yes? Sometimes we tell ourselves, I can handle it now. I'm feeling better. It's just one more thing. But maybe we're asking the wrong question. Instead of asking, can I do this? Maybe we should ask, why do I feel like I have to? Sometimes our yes comes from fear of disappointing people, guilt, people pleasing, or believing our self-worth is found in what we do instead of who we are. Maybe the boundary isn't the problem. Maybe the discomfort you feel when you set one is revealing something God wants to heal. Now don't mistake restoration for permission to carry everything again. Restoration gives you the clarity to know what belongs in your hand and what never did. So how do we actually live this out? Because I don't want this just to be another episode you listen to and think, oh, that was good, and then go right back to carrying everything. I want you to leave with something practical, something you can pray over this week. So if you're in a place where you can grab a pencil, a journal, or a sheet of paper. Now, if you're driving, don't worry about it, come back later. Now I want you to draw two columns. In column one, write mind to carry. These are the things God has clearly entrusted to you. For example, your relationship with God, your family, the work God has called you to do in this season, your health, and responsibilities that genuinely belong to you. In column two, write mind to let go. Now these are the things God never asks you to carry. Maybe things like people pleasing, guilt, feeling responsible for everyone's happiness, unrealistic expectations, saying yes, out of obligation, or trying to prove your worth. Now your list may look different from mine. Prayerfully ask God what belongs in each column. There may be things I didn't mention that He wants you to release, and there may be responsibilities he's calling you to embrace more intentionally. I challenge you to choose one habit this week that protects your peace. Maybe it's a bedtime. Maybe it's saying no. Maybe it's taking your lunch break. Maybe it's leaving work at work. Maybe it's putting your phone away. Remember, healing isn't just about feeling better, it's about living differently. After God restores your soul, don't mistake restoration for permission to carry everything again. Restoration gives you the clarity to know what belongs in your hand and what never did. That's what stepping out looks like. Sis, if this episode encouraged you, don't keep it to yourself.
